About Us

The James River Aquarium Society (JRAS) is a not-for-profit educational and social organization for freshwater and tropical fish enthusiasts in Central Virginia. JRAS was created in 2011 to give aquarists, with a wide range of interests, backgrounds and skill levels, opportunities to meet, learn and share their experiences.

JRAS meetings are held monthly, typically every fourth Wednesday at 7 p.m., at Logo Advantage, 8007 – A Mechanicsville Turnpike, Mechanicsville, VA. All are welcome to attend. Most meetings feature a guest speaker, open discussion and an auction for equipment, fish, and/or plants. Refreshments are provided.

Visit our Google calendar for meeting details and our Join page to become a JRAS member.

Each fall, we hold an annual, all-day auction. Hobbyists from across Virginia and nearby states both sell and buy hundreds of items – fish, plants, tanks, etc. Many are donated from our generous sponsors. It’s a great opportunity to get into the hobby, find a deal on the item you’ve been searching for or find a fish you have never seen before.
